Ferrari has announced a recall of the 12Cilindri after facing regulatory issues in the United States due to excessively dark window glass.
During a pre-delivery inspection of the exclusive model, it was determined that the windows were too dark to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States.
These regulations require that outward-facing glass allows at least 70% light transmission. Any lower percentage can impair the driver’s visibility, increasing the risk of an accident. Now, 80 units of the 12Cilindri are involved in the recall, announced by Ferrari on March 16.
According to Ferrari’s recall documents, the root cause of the issue was identified as an internal error related to the model’s technical specifications for the U.S. market. Fortunately, the solution is relatively simple.

The 12Cilindri models will now be taken back to the factory, where they will receive new glass that complies with FMVSS regulations. The automaker will also reimburse any owners who replaced the glass before recall notifications were issued.
The company plans to notify all known current owners of the affected 12Cilindri units by May 15. To receive service, they must schedule an appointment with an authorized Ferrari dealer.
